Community Focus: Kujay > News

Good Friday, parents! Welcome back to one of our favorite segments on, this week’s Community Focus! This week we’re chatting with a content creator who has a very rad day job, Kujay!

Hi Kujay! Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! So, let’s start with a little background. Who are you, what are your pronouns, and where are you from?

Hi, my name is Kujay (he/she). I’m an aircraft designer back in the day and a destiny Content creator by night! I grew up in a small town in eastern Kansas before moving to Southern California after college.

Wait, aircraft designer? Yeah, we’ll have to touch on that in a moment. But first, what got you into gaming and content creation?

I got involved in gaming at a very young age when I was just four years old. I had just started going to daycare, and there was a Super Nintendo that all the kids could play with. the first game i played was Yoshi’s Island (Still an amazing game today!), and good god, I was hooked right away! Fast forward about 20 years, and after moving to SoCal, I found myself with a lot more free time than I was accustomed to during school (aerospace engineering coursework is no joke!). Then, shortly after the launch of Rise of Iron, a friend of mine who was streaming started thinking about me trying out streaming for myself. After pushing him for a few months, I finally gave in and bought a PS4 webcam. I found streaming to be a lot of fun (and something I’m really good at), so much so that I’ve been doing it for almost six years!

This sounds like my kind of daycare. Okay, here’s the big question – how in the world do you balance both a full-time job and content creation?

Over the years it has been difficult to balance my professional career with the content creation side of my life. In the early years, I streamed a lot, coming to the stream every Friday to Monday (usually involving lots of tests of Osiris assists!). However, as the years went by and the responsibilities of my day job began to increase, I began to reduce the amount of material I was working out. I’ve started to focus more on YouTube over the past two years, because it’s something I can “piece-by-piece” while the camera is moving for a live stream. And on the Twitch side of the house, I’m mostly a “weekend warrior” now, with streams only on Saturdays and Sundays. Connecting the two sides of my life has been difficult, but it is also very rewarding. How many people get to design airplanes during the week, and then come home over the weekend to a successful stream and YouTube channel? This is something I do not take lightly!

Oh my god, this just seems like such a wild ride, and it looks like you did such a good job keeping it up. So, you mentioned Yoshi Island, but how did you find it? destiny,

So, interestingly, I actually took a long break from gaming when destiny Came to call After taking the hell out of Skyrim my senior year of high school, I didn’t play much during my freshman or college years. However, I was pulled back by the PS4 remaster of The Last of Us (amazing game btw!), which I didn’t get a chance to play when it originally launched. And then, as in “luck” (wink of a wink), a few days after it’s over the last of usI got an email from Sony inviting me to play an upcoming destiny Alpha. I was always more call of duty the child is growing up, but many of my childhood friends were older aura fan. When I asked him about Bungie’s next project destinyThey all encouraged me to give it a try, describing the game as a mashup call of duty, auraand “space” SkyrimI decided to give the Alpha a try shortly thereafter, and I was immediately shocked. Gunplay was by far and away the best I had ever experienced. And now, eight years later, I’m still as helpless destiny As I first landed at the Cosmodrome.

One day a player, love watching it! What type of content do you prefer to focus on when streaming or creating videos?

I like to focus on endgame stuff destiny, with a greater focus on the PvP side, be it Trial of Osiris or Iron Banner. I also love GM nightfalls and raids, and I especially savor the experiences of a day’s raid with my group!

He’s super awesome! Endgame content can be so challenging, so it’s really nice to see a content creator like you to help teach and shepherd others. For those new players, what is it that you wish you had known before, or at least in the beginning, destiny journey?

Honestly, I wish someone had told me how well I’m going to be absorbed in destiny The universe and the wider Bungie community. How am I still playing the same game eight years later?! Hahaha, just kidding =). But in all seriousness, I wish I knew how important it is to find a solid group of people to play destiny with. I played solo for a good while during vanilla D1 before finding my way to the LFG (Looking for Group) websites. If I hadn’t been caught by the magic of OG Vault of Glass, there’s a good chance I would have stopped playing destiny In those early days. The game is a lot more fun to play when you have friends to jump into tough stuff and bounce off builds and ideas. Because of this, I’m incredibly excited for the arrival of Guardian Ranks and the in-game Fireteam Finder. destiny 2 next year. I think they’ll serve as a catalyst for thousands of players to create their own friend groups and unlock the real “endgame”. destiny,

heck yeah! Due to your focus on endgame content, do you have any advice for players looking to improve their skills as a player?

If you’re someone who wants to delve deeper into the endgame experiences destiny and improve your skills, the best thing you can do is reach out to other players and start building a friend group that you can play with destiny with. whereas destiny Can be played alone, the game’s full potential is realized when you have an established group of people on whom you can depend, both in casual PvE environments and in trials trenches. Teamwork is what really makes dreams work, and over time collaborating with other like-minded players will make you a better player.

Okay, it’s time to ask, what is your main character and favorite subclass?

I’m probably too angry here, but Hunter is my main character, and I’ve been hopelessly addicted to Stompies for the better part of five years now. Going back to Modern Warfare 2, my favorite way to play FPS games has always been about speed, speed and more speed! To that end, I am absolutely in love with Ark 3.0 Hunter. Speed Booster is just *chef’s kiss* and Gathering Storm might just be the best super in the game right now. I used to main use ArcStrider from Seasons 2 to 8, so it’s been wonderful to come home to my old kid with Arc 3.0!

Oh yes, it’s always fun to go fast in video games! What kind of vibe does your channel maintain?

My channel treads the line between both entertaining and educational. In a moment, we will delve into the depths of the lore of fate Start speculating about the universe and future stories to come. Then in the next, something completely ridiculous will happen within the Crucible match (at the expense of either my opponent or myself, both often happen!). We often talk about the making of the game or the state of the game as a whole, while keeping things very light-hearted with lots of laughs along the way. Like the balance between my work life and content creation, my channel thrives in its duality between education and entertainment.

Entertaining and educational while keeping it light-hearted? Sounds like my kind of place!

Okay, it’s time to end our interview, but I wanted to ask because you’ve been really inspirational in our conversation so far. What is it that you want to make sure every New Light knows they’ve joined the Guardian ranks?

With the current New Light experience, once you’ve finished introducing yourself to the Cosmodrome, it can feel great. You are called in tow, and you are presented with quest after quest after quest. My advice would be to just pick one of those searches and commit to that alone. By the time you complete that first quest, you have a great chance to try out some new weapons, increase your power a bit, and, in general, get a feel for the gameplay loop. destiny, And once most people go that far, usually the gameplay alone is enough to attract them!

For more specific tips, 1000% start using Destiny Item Manager for a massively better inventory experience. That, and be sure to check in with Ada-1 every day for those sweet, sweet combat modes!
