Update below 09/18. This post was originally published on September 16.
After five hours of downtime, fortnite Chapter 3, Season 4 is live. Servers are back up and running and players are diving off the battle bus to get it out on the map with some significant changes.
Season 4 is called Paradise, a strange title for a season about a mysterious all-consuming substance called chrome that occurs during Halloween. Here’s everything you need to know.
We’ll start with the story trailer that introduces us to the strange new metallic liquid called Chrome that starts devouring Map and Seven, and introduces Brie Larson (captain marvel) as a paradigm:
We’re also introduced to a mysterious red-haired villain known as The Herald at the end of the trailer:
Chrome will play a key role this season. You can transform yourself into more structures into chrome and walk through chrome walls, which you can build into enemy structures to make them penetrable.
Transforming yourself into a Chrome makes you immune to fire and fall damage for a short period of time and turns you into a Chrome blob when you sprint. You can also provide a dash, which allows you to step through walls (so you can step through a chrome wall if you’re not chrome, and any other structure if you don’t. Huh Chrome.
New Weapons + Returning Weapons
Two new weapons are introduced in Season 4. Not surprisingly, both of these are Chrome-based.
Evochrome Burst Rifle
Returning and Unvaulted Weapons:
- sidearm pistol
- prime shotgun
- lever action shotgun
- rapid fire smg
- suppressed submachine gun
- ranger assault rifle
- hammer assault rifle
- Designated Marksman Rifle (DMR)
- Hunter Bolt-Action Sniper
- Firefly Zara
- harpoon gun
- Shadow Tracker (Alien Weapon)
- Dub (Foreign Weapon)
- Boom Sniper Rifle (Foreign Weapon)
- Boogie Bomb (not technically a weapon but sounds like one)
- Shockwave Grenade (not even technically a weapon but here is)
Sniper rifles have also gotten a buff, making the long game more viable this season:
- Hunter Bolt-Action Sniper – Increased damage and headshot multiplier
- hunting rifle – Increased damage and headshot multiplier
- automatic sniper rifle – Increased damage and headshot multiplier
- lever action rifle – Increased damage and headshot multiplier
- suppressed sniper rifle – increased damage
- semi-auto sniper rifle – increased damage
- rail gun – increased damage
- bolt-action sniper rifle – increased damage
- heavy sniper rifle – Increased headshot multiplier
- Storm Scout Sniper Rifle – Increased headshot multiplier
- boom sniper rifle – Increase in explosive damage
season 4 battle pass
Six new skins are added to the Season 4 Battle Pass and a “Secret” skin. Read all about these and how to unlock them Right here. The Battle Pass once again includes 100 levels of content to unlock using Battle Stars, and includes gliders, sprays, emotes, pickaxes, and more.
New Map + Map Changes
Kondo Canyon took off, becoming cloudy condo, You can use de-launchers to rocket yourself up to (or build) a floating platform.
The other major new point of interest is Herald’s Saints:
Here’s what the new map looks like. You can see that it’s been a little autumn, and we now have four different biomes, including winter snow, green fields, a desert, and an autumn biome.
New items like Chrome Splash, which can turn you or walls into chrome, have joined the game. There are now vaults that you can unlock with special keys found around the map, in chests, etc. Vaults with low security require a key; Higher-security vaults require two and offer better loot. When you find a key, vault locations appear on the map. Gone are the days when Epic Games made this sort of thing a real challenge, alas.
Epic Games has also added a new slide-kick action, Season 4 challenges, and many other tweaks to the gameplay and balance.
So that’s it! Good luck getting your Victory Royale, young Padawans! I will see you in paradise!
fortnite Chapter 3, Season 3 has been going on for almost the entire summer. In fact, the season began on June 5, two weeks before the summer solstice. It ends a few days before the official start of Fall.
We’ve got some clues about the new season, called Paradise — although it appears to be a deeply ironic title. While Season 3’s Vibin moniker gives it fun summer vibes, Paradise is framing what appears to be a pretty spooky season.
The weird liquid chrome is present in every teaser images so far, and it appears our heroes — and the map — can be sucked down to the sticky, oily-looking stuff.
We will know more soon. Season 3 is almost here, and Season 4 is near. Here’s what you need to know.
Season 3 officially ends on Sunday, September 18th at approximately 2am ET. If you’re on Pacific Time, it’s 11 p.m. on Saturday, September 17th. This breaks down to 6 a.m. UTC on Sunday the 18th.
From here on out, we can usually expect three or four hours of downtime depending on the update, and of course you’ll need to update your game after Epic Games does its server-side magic.
Season 4 will begin straight after the servers are back online, so you should be the first to get up and running on Sunday morning, when you’re all bright-eyed and bush-tailed and ready to snag some Victory Royale.
We’ll be covering the new Battle Pass, map changes, challenges, and everything else at Forbes Games. I expect Epic to bring back cool challenges and fun things like loading screens and hidden battle stars or coins, but I try not to get my hopes up.
So far we know about Chapter 3, Season 4, based on leaks, rumours, teasers and official announcements from Epic Games.
battle pass skins
What we know for sure is there will be a Gwen Stacy Spider-Man skin that’s used amazingly in the dazzling cel-shading animation Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse The movie (one of my favorite Spidey movies of all time).
We also know that the perfect goth for Halloween is Maywuscles skin, although “muscle” in a cat’s name is a bit of a misnomer at this point. Goth Mayoscals are not ripped in any sense of the word.
A third skin sporting chrome hands could also be part of the Battle Pass, thanks to what we’ve seen in the teaser (though take this with a grain of salt, naturally).
Lastly, popular streamer SypherPK is also getting its own Icon Series skin, though it won’t be part of the Battle Pass. The new skin image also features a new scoped AR or tactical rifle of some sort, so expect that as one of the new weapons in Chapter 4, Season 4.
Other changes we can expect are lots and lots of chrome on the map, including chrome tornadoes that can be more like monuments than moving weather events. We should also see a bunch of balloons floating on the map.
The new patch will drop 22.00 when the game ends on Sunday, but as of this writing we don’t know the exact size of the update on each platform. I will update this post once we know.
Unfortunately there will be no live-events to kick off Season 3 and start Season 4, which of course is a huge shame. Fortnite’s live-events are some of the best out there and each season is a real highlight. Hopefully we’ll get a big live-event to wrap up Season 4 in a few months.
fortnite Chapter 4, Season 4 is almost here!
