Thierry Henry has detailed how Lionel Messi deceives opponents by appearing “less interested” at the start of games.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is known for his incredible ability to drift in and out of games, with the Argentine legend capable of flicking a switch at any time and making a significant impact to proceedings. Few have been able to contain the apparent threat he poses, with former Barcelona teammate Henry believing that an all-time great has returned to his best in 2022-23 at Paris Saint-Germain.
Thierry Henry’s comment
Henry told Prime Video France: “Most defenders get confused because Messi always seems less interested at the start of games and then he changes the pace. I’ve played with him a couple of years and this season, Messi is in frightening form.”
Lionel Messi’ stats this season
After a somewhat quiet debut season at PSG by his standards, Messi has 12 goals and 13 assists in 17 games for the Ligue 1 champions this season.

PSG will face Juventus in the Champions League on Wednesday as they seek an elusive European trophy, while Messi’s thoughts are turning to another World Cup victory with his country.
