Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been characterized by Roma manager Jose Mourinho as a player who can capitalize on half-chances in a game.

The Nigerian international scored the game-winning goal in Napoli’s 1-0 victory against Roma in Sunday’s Serie A encounter, and the Portuguese tactician let everyone know about it.

After receiving a route-one pass from Mateo Politano, Osimhen fought off Chris Smalling’s hold before hitting a stunning shot from the most unlikely of angles.

In response to Osimhen’s performance, Mourinho praised him for his capacity to seize every opportunity that presents itself.

“Up front, we need to be more decisive because shots on goal are what are recorded in the statistics.

After the game, Mourinho said to DAZN, “I also look at the half opportunities, those that you have to turn into opportunities as Osimhen did.”

Personal Life

Born in Nigeria, Osimhen began his senior career in Germany at VfL Wolfsburg in 2017. Following a season and a half at the club, he moved to Belgian side Charleroi on loan in 2018–19, before moving to France at Lille. In 2020, Osimhen transferred to Serie A club Napoli for a club-record fee of €70 million. He won the Serie A Best Young Player award in the 2021–22 season.

Osimhen won the Golden Boot award at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup, which Nigeria won. He made his senior international debut in June 2017 and played at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
