Green Bay, Wis. – There may be an open receiver tryout in the parking lot at Raymond James Stadium before the Green Bay Packers face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
The receiver cores of both teams can go lame in an NFC showdown.
Alan Lazard (ankle), Sammy Watkins (hamstring), Christian Watson (hamstring) and Randall Cobb (disease) did not practice for Green Bay on Thursday. Lazard, Watkins and Watson were limited in Wednesday’s practice while Cobb did not participate. The Packers are so short-handed that they re-signed Travis Fulgham to the practice squad just days after he was released.
For Tampa Bay, Mike Evans (suspended) will not play and fellow starters Chris Godwin (hamstring) and Julio Jones (knee), who were both inactive last week, did not practice for the second day in a row. Russell Gage (hamstring), Scotty Miller (calf) and Breshad Perriman (knee) are also on injury reports, Miller upgraded to full involvement and Gage and Perriman are confined again.
Packers kicker Mason Crosby did not practice due to illness.
For what it’s worth, Packers left tackle David Bakhtiari (knee) was back on practice. He did not practice on Wednesday.
Speaking ahead of practice, coach Matt LaFleur would not give any indication on Bakhtiari’s condition.
“We are trying everything to figure out what works best for him and us and try to get back to that as soon as possible,” he said.
Whoever lines up on a left tackle, whether it’s Bakhtiari or Yosh Nijman, a great challenge awaits against a Buccaneers defense that takes the NFL to the sacks. offensive line, Elgton Jenkins. increased from the beginning ofLast week’s win over the Bears turned into a strong showing.
“I thought, for the most part, I thought they did a great job,” LaFleur said. “Sure, it wasn’t flawless. It never is, and hopefully we can build on it. But I think the run game in particular was really strong. We’re going to have a big challenge ahead of us this week.” It’s about as good a defense as you’ll find in the National Football League from first level to back end, last level. A bunch of pro bowlers at all three levels. So, it’s going to be a big challenge for us.”
The Buccaneers dropped the tackle. Donovan Smith (elbow) returned to practice. He was inactive last week.
